Beauty, Barber & Grooming Shear Sharpening
We use the Kuda Torsional Edge Technology sharpening system to properly sharpen and maintain professional quality beauty, barber and grooming shears.
The Kuda system is the only sharpening system available that can maintain or restore the "Factory Edge" feel and performance to your shears.
Improper sharpening techniques alter the geometry of the edge thereby degrading the overall performance of the shear. For more information about how the Kuda sharpening system is designed to properly sharpen and maintain your shears in top working condition, visit the Kuda Sharpening Systems website and watch Kuda inventor, Lenny Pietrzak on YouTube demonstrate how the Kuda Sharpening System will keep your shears performing at their maximum potential.
Training with Kuda inventor, Len Pietrzak.
I was personally trained by Lenny when I first purchased the Kuda machine, and I have attended Kuda seminars around the country to continue to enhance my skills as a professional sharpener.
Shear companies attend the Kuda seminars to display their products and to offer certification as "Factory Authorized Sharpening Technicians" to those sharpeners who pass a demanding and rigorous certification test.
The certification process is as follows. The sharpener purchases a brand-new shear from the company, the shear is examined by Lenny, then tested on human hair by a platform artist stylist. Once they both agree that the shear is in "factory new" condition and performs properly, Lenny will purposely damage the shear by nicking both blades, then closing the shear to magnify the damage.
(Ouch!! I just paid $200.00 for those shears!) The sharpener has 30 minutes to repair the damage and return the shear to "factory new" appearance and performance.
Once the repair and re-sharpening are finished, Lenny judges the shear for appearance, if it passes, the shear is then tested once again by the stylist. The shear must look "factory new" and perform blunt cuts, power cuts and slide cuts flawlessly.
Once the shear is passed by Lenny and the stylist, it is returned to the shear company representative for a final inspection. If the shear company agrees that the sharpener has satisfactorily repaired the shear to "factory new" condition, the sharpener receives a certification from that company as a "Factory Authorized Sharpening Technician" which allows them to sharpen or repair that brand of shear without voiding the factory warranty.
This certification process also reassures the stylist, barber or groomer that they are dealing with a truly professional sharpener who invests time, effort and money to develop their skills and who takes pride in the quality of their work.
Here are the certifications that I have received so far.
